The company said the VRX-6 software can accelerate off-site data replication workloads up to 20x on average over any distance.
Silver Peak developed the VRX software products using its Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA). VRX-6 software runs on all standard hypervisors, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM. It also works with asynchronous IP-based replication products from Dell, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems and NetApp.
According to Silver Peak, VRX-6 offers a maximum rate limit of 300 Mbps and averages 750 GB per hour of replication traffic. VRX-6 completes the VRX series of products, which offer replication performance of up to 2 TB per hour.
Additional products in the line include VRX-2, which offers a maximum rate limit of 20 Mbps and averages 50 GB per hour of replication traffic; VRX-4 offers a maximum rate limit of 100 Mbps and averages 250 GB per hour; and VRX-8 has a maximum rate limit of 1 Gbps and averages 2 TB per hour.
"The business value of Silver Peak VRX is to enable your servers and storage to communicate faster, or move more data in a given amount of time over slower long-distance networks," said Greg Schulz of StorageIO.
"This means organizations can stretch their budgets further using available or existing networking technologies and services to support growth or to reduce the amount of time needed for protecting data across locations. Being virtual machine-based gives flexibility of enabling wide-area storage access acceleration and bandwidth optimization without the cost or complexity of adding more servers or networking hardware."
According to the Silver Peak website, pricing for VRX-6 starts at $18,257 per year.
