and recovery for a distributor of animal health products.

Axxana said its Phoenix System RP was developed in conjunction with EMC’s RecoverPoint: the EMC product sends data asynchronously to remote sites over a WAN, and Axxana’s product makes a synchronous copy that is kept in what the company calls “disaster-proof ‘black box’ storage” at the primary site.

The company said its disaster recovery for backup product can rapidly send data to the remote site following a disaster.  At the remote site, recovered data can then be integrated with the remote site’s data to create a “mirror image” of what was in the primary site.

Axxana’s customer is Animal Health International Inc., which distributes health products and other supplies for house pets, as well as farm animals.

Axxana’s “black box” storage device is actually a SSD flash memory array that includes 72 GB or 400 GB of removable memory, and is resistant to up to an hour of exposure to temperatures of up to 2000 degrees. According to Axxana, the company’s Phoenix System RP supports EMC CLARiiON, VNX Series, and Vblock systems.

In case you were wondering: According to images posted at the Axxana website, the “black box” is actually stored in a perhaps more-practical orange casing, although it is labeled “BLACK BOX” on the lid.
