What are the pros and cons of using tape storage for disaster recovery purposes?

>
As much as everyone would love to get rid of tape for backup and recovery, it is still one of the most dependable solutions in case of a disaster. However, there are some downsides to using tape for disaster recovery. For example, tape is not the fastest to recover, especially if you have the tapes located offsite. Volumes of data can span a large number of tapes, so if you have to recover your entire business via tape, it can get long and tiresome. Depending on what the recovery point objective (RPO), multiple lines of defense can and should be used.
