For the most part, replication doesn't care what the target is. Certain products may have limitations, but, generally speaking, it doesn't matter if you are replicating locally, across a WAN or to the cloud. Cloud storage is just another possible target.
Cloud providers are currently adding support for different vendors' replication products. Also, backup software vendors such as CommVault, Symantec and others are adding the option to replicate to the cloud.
